Srinagar, Mar 05 (KNO): The world famous ski-resort, Gulmarg on Thursday experienced fresh snowfall while as the intermittent rainfall continued across the Valley for the second consecutive day, bringing the temperature further down in Kashmir.

According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the higher reaches including Gulmarg witnessed a fresh snowfall today while as rains lashed parts of Kashmir including plains throughout the day. Meteorological department (MeT) spokesman said that an inch of snowfall has been accumulated in Gulmarg while as the temperature has witnessed a dip from last evening.

He also informed that Srinagar received a rainfall of 1.1 mm till 05:00 PM while as the Qazigund, Pahalgam, Kupwara and Banihal received a rainfall of 4.8, 1.2, 2.0 and 8.6 mm respectively. Deputy Director MeT, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad told—KNO that the wet weather conditions will continue to prevail in Jammu and Kashmir till Saturday evening, adding that there is possibility of improvement in the weather prevailing conditions from Saturday night. He added that the temperature will be go further down in Kashmir in next two days, adding that it will improve only after the wet spell ends.

“As per the prediction, Kashmir parts will continue to receive rainfall or snowfall till Saturday evening,” he said. Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only road connecting Valley with rest of the States remained closed for the vehicular movement. Officials in the traffic department told KNO that the highway was kept closed in wake of the fresh landslides along the highway. He said that the road clearance work has not been started yet in wake of the continuous rainfall, adding that the work to clear the road will be started soon after the rainfall stops—(KNO)
